Blog Post #1: Cultural Diet
I am a college student who is studying animation. My cultural diet I consume everyday is drawing traditional art, watching art and cooking tutorials on YouTube, collecting figures from popular movies, and reading fantasy fiction novels.
Throughout my four years of college, I have taken art classes as part of my journey in becoming an animator someday. I've watched stunning animations with wonderful characters, incredible storytelling, and inspirational messages that I admire. These amazing stories by wonderful artists and writers is what inspired me to develop an interest in writing fictional stories and produce an animation of a folktale I want to create. On my free time I read fantasy novels including the mortal instruments series, the Trylle trilogy and the Kanin Chronicles.
Other activities I've done daily is drawing art in my sketchbook where I sketch random characters I could think of. It is one of my main hobbies I love to do everyday to improve my skills. Sometimes I draw fan art from pop culture including a character from the DC Universe Aquaman. While I'm taking a break from drawing, I watch tutorial videos on YouTube about cooking meals and desserts, writing tips to edit short stories I've worked on, and sketchbook tours since I love art. I also collect Funko pop figures of characters that are my favorite from popular media including a figurine of Maka from an anime Soul Eater.
Studying art is one of the practices that is meaningful to me since I admire the artwork I look at in an art museum and online. I develop my creativity by watching sketchbook tour videos to generate new ideas for my sketchbook. Making art is what motivates me to draw and write innovative works of fiction I could share one day.
Hello Karina.
ReplyDeleteYour post caught my eye because my daughter studied animation while here at GCC. She currently is finishing her last year at ASU with a double major of animation/graphic design and Business. She is very interested in gaming animation.
I loved hearing about all the work you are currently doing with your own artwork. Do you plan to continue your education or go directly into the animation field when you finish here? I had hoped my daughter would have considered FIDM (Sorry, Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising) in San Diego or Los Angeles, as she was interested in movie animation for a while. They have internships with Pixar and a few other studios, but she decided to stay in-state. Turned out for the best since she decided that was not something she loved.
Perhaps you could post a piece of original art on your blog here for others to see? I believe the world needs more artists and wish you the best of luck in your endeavors. I hope to see something of your original stories in the future.
